Our approach to projects

At energyTEAM, we strive to achieve a balance between power generation and environmental sustainability. Through a comprehensive pre-feasibility assessment including careful site selection, we ensure that our projects minimise environmental disturbance. We work closely with local stakeholders and environmental practitioners to integrate clean energy into the national grid while protecting the natural environment.

Our Portfolio

Current Developments

energyTEAM has a number of projects in various stages of development across its portfolio.
To date, 774MW has successfully reached Financial Close. These projects represent a
significant step towards expanding clean and sustainable power generation.

Wind Projects

Wind energy is one of the cleanest ways to produce electricity. Unlike fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources, wind turbines generate power without emitting greenhouse gases or polluting the air. Wind turbines have a fairly small physical footprint once installed. Only a small fraction of land is occupied by a turbine foundation, leaving space for agricultural activities, grazing, or natural habitats to continue around them. Protecting biodiversity is central to our approach. Independent ecological specialists, including avifauna and bats specialists, are commissioned to assess the impact of our projects and recommend mitigation measures, ensuring there is minimal impact.

Solar Projects

Solar power has become one of the most competitive forms of clean energy worldwide, and South Africa’s abundant sunshine makes it an ideal resource. We follow a dual-use
approach for our solar projects where solar energy and agriculture thrive together. Livestock can graze comfortably beneath raised panels, which provide shade from the sun, shelter from hail, and protection from predators.

By combining solar power with agricultural use, we ensure that land remains productive throughout the lifespan of a project. This not only sustains farming livelihoods but also strengthens food security and creates long-term environmental value.

Battery Energy Storage Systems

As South Africa transitions to cleaner energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring stability and reliability on the grid. Wind and solar resources are naturally variable, but advanced storage technology allows us to smooth out this variability by storing excess energy when production is high and releasing it when demand peaks or when the renewable resource is not available. In every project, storage is planned with the same care as our wind and solar facilities: from environmental screening and safety management to lifecycle planning. By pairing renewable projects with BESS, we move beyond simply generating clean electricity — towards delivering stable and secure energy for South Africa.

Powering the Future

Protecting

The Environment

Our starting point for every project is to avoid sensitive ecosystems. Using advanced mapping tools and field studies, we identify biodiversity hotspots and direct developments away from them. Where disturbance to biodiversity is unavoidable, mitigation measures and rehabilitation efforts are implemented with the recommendations of environmental specialists. When a project reaches its lifespan, all machinery and associated structures are dismantled and removed, and the land is rehabilitated to its original condition, as far as reasonably possible.

Partnering with

Communities

We believe renewable energy should benefit everyone. From the earliest planning stages, we engage openly with communities, local stakeholders and local authorities. Our projects contribute directly to local economic development through local job creation, municipal revenues, and opportunities for local businesses. We also create space for community participation, ensuring that benefits are shared over the long-term.
